"Heads Up on Infant Mortality" - A resounding success

A heartfelt THANK YOU! goes out to all the knitters and crochet-ers who contributed to our Heads Up Campaign. We have been overwhelmed by the phenomenal response - nearly 900 hats have been received to date. We will be displaying the hats through December in The Rotunda at Orlando City Hall and then distributing them to local NICU's and needy central Florida families. THANK YOU again.(November 22, 2009)

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HEADS UP ON INFANT MORTALITY

Please Help Us Knit or Crochet a Hat Today to raise awareness about Infant Mortality!

Knit or Crochet a HatSeptember is Infant Mortality Month. Did you know that 1,687 babies died before age one in 2007 in the state of Florida alone? The 2009 Campaign for Healthier Babies is drawing attention to infant mortality by knitting or crocheting one infant hat for every baby who did not reach their first birthday. Jennie Joseph, Director of The Birth Place in Winter Garden, emphasizes that “Many babies are being born too soon, too small, or too sick to survive.” Please join us in our endeavor to promote early prenatal care and save the lives of our children!

The hats will be displayed at a rally in September (date & time TBA). You can help by knitting or crocheting one or more infant hats and bringing or mailing your hat(s) by September 1, 2009 to:
