Delivering Healthcare Services to Central Florida’s Neediest Mothers
Orlando, FL – November 2006 – The Birth Place, a unique birthing center and midwifery practice, today announced funding from the Winter Park Health Foundation, an organization dedicated to making a positive difference in people’s lives by creating the healthiest community, to improve birth outcomes through prenatal care in Central Florida. The funds will help The Birth Place offer uninsured and under insured pregnant women access to preventative healthcare and overall well-being for both the mother and expectant child.
The Birth Place plans to use the funding to hire an additional midwife, outreach to the community for educational program directed at women on the advantages of natural childbirth and research benefits available to indigent pregnant women.
“As a health care leader in Central Florida through innovation, research and practice, we want to eliminate the disparities that low income families face,” said Lisa Portelli with the Winter Park Health Foundation. “Our partnership with Jennie Joseph and The Birth Place will allow is to reach those individuals most in need.”
Jennie Joseph, Clinical Director of The Birth Place can now offer her patients, 95% of whom are on Medicaid, not just physical care during pregnancy, but holistic care in treating their emotional, mental and spiritual side. The unique approach of midwifery advocates and supports women and families for a healthful and positive outcome to the birth experience.
“Support from the Winter Park Heath Foundation will allow us to help even more pregnant women in need of healthcare services in the Central Florida area,” said Jennie Joseph. “The more women who know about the changes their bodies go through during pregnancy, the more they are able to help themselves and their children.”
